Cruising in Australia

One thing Australia is known for is its endless outback desert, stretching for thousands of miles across the continent, but on the coast, you’ll find something completely different: endless miles of gorgeous sandy beaches, where soaking up the sun is a favourite way to spend a few hours. With the country’s interior a somewhat inhospitable place, Australia’s major settlements are all situated on the coast, and a cruise here gives you the chance to visit some of the most exciting cities in Australasia, including Sydney and Melbourne.

Sydney is home to one of the world’s most famous architectural icons—the Sydney Opera House, with its curving sail-like lines. Between the opera house and the harbour bridge, Sydney’s harbour is both stunning and instantly familiar, an amazing welcome to this exciting city. For an incredible shopping experience visit the enormous Paddy’s Market, where you’ll find everything from fashion to food, crafts and leather goods, and also find yourself immediately caught up in the exciting atmosphere. Outside of the city you’ll find amazing natural attractions, from the famous Bondi Beach, to the incredible sandstone cliffs of the Blue Mountains. Featherdale Wildlife Park gives you the opportunity to see native animals such as koala, kangaroo, and emu, and many others.

Further south on the coast, Melbourne has a reputation as Australia’s most culture-oriented city, with its large number of museums, galleries, and music venues. Visit the Golden Mile, at the city’s heart, for a taste of the wide variety of shops and cultural venues, or visit Queen Victoria Market, another of Australia’s famously huge and busy open-air markets. Outside the city, explore places like Yarra Valley wine country, or the Blue Dandenongs, a stunning mountain range covered in thick forests and lush ferns, with the mysterious atmosphere of an untouched, pristine primordial forest.

Hot in summer and cool in winter, Australia’s east coast climate is always hospitable, with north-eastern cities enjoying subtropical weather, and a more temperature climate on the south-east coast. Temperatures on the east coast reach around 30 degrees Celsius in the summer, and the high teens in winter.
