Bay of Biscay, France

Cruising to Bay of Biscay

Skirting northern Spain and western France, the Bay of Biscay is home to some of Europe's most charming cities, as well as some breathtaking natural scenery and amazing wildlife. Indeed, with the water in the bay reaching a depth of 4,000 m, it provides the perfect habitat for a wide array of marine mammals, making this a wonderful place to come for whale and dolphin spotting.

Among the species that are regularly seen here are the likes of the common dolphin, the striped dolphin and the bottlenose dolphin, while pilot whales, beaked whales and minke whales are all to be found here as well.

The Bay of Biscay also boasts some wonderful beaches, with coastal cities like Biarritz being famous for their seaside offerings. Elsewhere, Bilbao is one of the major cultural powerhouses of this part of Europe, with attractions such as the world-famous Guggenheim Museum among its stand-out features. The nearby city of San Sebastian, meanwhile, is among Spain's most beautiful coastal destinations, while Bordeaux in France is known for its wonderful wines, among other things.
