Cruising to Berlin (Warnemunde)

Located on the outskirts of the university town of Rostock, Warnemünde is one of Germany’s most charming seaside port towns, and is also the gateway to the capital, Berlin. For those who have little time to spare and want to get to Berlin post haste, there are a number of transport options from the ferry port, with trains and buses both being good options.

Once in the capital, you’ll be really spoilt for choice in terms of historic and cultural attractions, with the city of course being famous for theBerlin Wall, which separated the East from the West during the period of the Soviet Union. Getting your passport stamped by an American GI at Checkpoint Charlie is a fun way to learn more about the city’s history while also picking up a great memento, while the nearby Holocaust Memorial is an incredibly moving tribute to those who lost their lives at the hands of the Nazis.

Berlin is also home to some of the most incredibly beautiful buildings in Europe, with the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate being among the city’s most iconic landmarks. Other excellent places to head to include the world-renowned Museum of Photography, as well as the stunning Egyptian Museum.
