Carnival Ecstasy

When it comes to offering fun family holidays, fewer ships have more experience than Carnival Ecstasy. Despite the fact she's the cruise line's second oldest vessel, you wouldn't know it thanks to the plethora of refurbishments that have taken place over the years. A recent overhaul in 2009 saw waterslides added to the pool and all signs of wear completely removed, so you'll find plenty of glitz and glamour on board that really contributes to that Carnival feel.

Carrying 2,052 passengers at full capacity, Ecstasy is significantly smaller than a lot of modern cruise vessels. But she makes up with it by providing a plethora of entertainment that will keep you busy every second of your holiday. Public spaces don't generally feel crowded, although the pool gets extremely busy on sea days and you'll have to get out of bed very early if you want a sun lounger.

Service is considered excellent - if you're thirsty or hungry, you won't be for long. Waiters and waitresses will remember your name and preferences from the first night. There are two dining rooms and a lido buffet., with the all-inclusive option providing a varied range of dishes.

Enjoy other popular options, such as the pizza bar and deli. Continental breakfast in bed is also available.

The emphasis with Carnival is on fun, and the Ecstasy is no exception. Expect your usual cruise-related activities - trivia sessions, bingo and games - across the various lounges and bars, or head to the pool for a splash-around.

At night, the Blue Sapphire Main Show Lounge advertises a variety of performances including concert series' and music hall, or you might fancy retiring to the casino and spending some cash on the tables.

Singalongs, karaoke and dancing are common all over the ship at night, and themed parties are common too. Bring a costume!
