Barbados
Caribbean Cruise to Beautiful Barbados with a British Flavour – Windward Islands
Though Barbados gained its independence from the British in 1966, the island maintains a distinctly English flavour. Cruise to This cosmopolitan island, home of the 'Seven Wonders': Harrison's Cave, for a gallery of stalactites; the huge Baobab or Monkey Bread tree; two of the three Jacobean mansions in the Western Hemisphere; the intact and restored Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill; the 17th century Jewish synagogue; the world's rarest collection of 17th century English iron cannons; and the place which produced the world's first grapefruit!
Guadeloupe
Caribbean Cruise to Lush and Rugged Guadeloupe – Windward Islands
Guadeloupe looks like a butterfly from the air. Its giant wings are actually two islands, separated by the Rivière Salée, a natural salt water channel. Basse Terre, the southern or leeward part of Guadeloupe, is lush and rugged, dominated by La Soufrière. A stream of boiling water gushes from the top of the 4,800-ft. mountain, reminding you that this volcano is not dormant, but very much alive.
Les Saintes
Caribbean Cruise to Entrancing Iles des Saintes – Windward Islands
Les Saintes is a thoroughly entrancing group of islands lying off Guadeloupe. You'll enjoy the superb beaches, snorkeling, diving and other watersports on offer.
Martinique
Caribbean Cruise to Beautiful Martinique, the 'Island of Flowers' –Windward Islands
Known as the 'Island of Flowers', Martinique is a little slice of France in the Caribbean. Renowned for its beauty, the island is home to an endless variety of flowers, trees and plants. The irregular coastline, with its many bays and tiny coves, provides miles of sandy beaches.
St Lucia
Caribbean Cruise to St. Lucia and Drive Through a Volcano – Windward Islands
The French occupied St Lucia prior to 1803 when the island became part of the British Commonwealth and the French influence is very much in evidence. Castries offers a colourful local market and great shopping and the surrounding area has rain forests, waterfalls, beautiful beaches and Sulfur Springs - the world's only' drive-through' volcano.
St Vincent
Caribbean Cruise to St Vincent and Find Out What a Breadfruit Tree is – Windward Islands
Although he never landed on the island, Columbus sailed past in 1498 on 22nd January, which happens to be St Vincents Day in the Spanish calender, and so gave the island its name. The Carib Indians were initially left to their own devices by the Europeans and external contacts were limited, however they did intermarry with the survivors of a slave ship that was wrecked on the coast. There's a strong British influence here as the islands official British roots go back to the mid 18th century. Notable sights include La Soufriere a 4,000 ft volcano that last erupted at the end of the 1970's. In Kingstown the botanical gardens are well worth a visit, there's even a descendent of the original breadfruit tree planted by Captain Bligh.
