Tianjin
A Cruise to Tianjin in China Will Take you to the "World Museum of Artitecture"
Tianjin is one of the four municipalities of China and is the third largest city in China after Shanghai and Beijing. The city is nicknamed "Shanghai of the North", a reference to its history as a foreign concession, its heavy industrial output, its large port and its European-style architecture. Cruise to the northern end of the Grand Canal of China which connects with the Huang He (Yellow) and Yangtze rivers. The municipality is generally flat and swampy near the coast but hilly in the far north where the Yanshan Mountains pass through the northern tip of Tianjin. The highest point in this area is Jiushanding Peak on the northern border with Hebei at an altitude of 1078m. Tianjin's architecture is particularly unique as it features a combination of traditional Chinese architecture and a rich mixture of architectural styles from other parts of the world, which is how it earned one of its other names: "World Museum of Architecture". As early as the 19th century the city had reached at an advanced level of industrialisation. The Ancient Culture Street sits at the junction of three rivers and is the centre of old Tianjin; with a Mazu temple in the middle, it is the heart of Tianjin's riverside culture. The Great wall running through Jixian County to the north of Tianjin has its own primitive simplicity and charm. The land where Tianjin lies today was created in historical times by the sedimentation of various rivers entering the sea at Bohai Bay, including the Yellow river which entered the sea in this area at one point. The opening of the Grand Canal of China during the Sui dynasty prompted the development of Tianjin into an important trade centre.
Xiamen

Xiamen, also known as Amoy, is a seaside village turned international cruise and commercial port city in the ]Fujian Province of China. It has the skyscrapers and the hustle and bustle of many larger Chinese cities but it's also known as China's cleanest and most relaxed city. With its charming old quarter, scenic countryside, tree-lined beaches and vehicle-free getaway island, Xiamen offers a pleasant cruise port respite with all the modern amenities. Take a 10 minute ferry ride across the Egret River to the scenic island retreat of the early 20th century wealthy, Gulang Yu. Gulang Yu means 'Drum Wave Islet' for the beating sound of waves rushing through hollow rocks. It was the pre-eminent locale for the international community to build their opulent mansions. Stroll through the serpentine, cobblestone streets (bonus: no cars allowed) to view a wide variety of international architecture at it's finest. Along the way, you'll find Asia's largest piano museum. The art of Xiamen lacquer thread sculpture has been in practice for more than 300 years. So is there any better place to pick up a piece? The sap of lacquer trees is mixed with brick powder and shaped into opulent yet delicate three-dimensional designs on plates, vases and urns.
