Fred. Olsen is a traditional British cruise operator offering mainly UK cruising from many ports (most notably Dover, Southampton) with well-designed itineraries, in a friendly and intimate ambience.
Fred. Olsen originated in Hvitsten, a small town on Oslofjord in Norway, when the three Olsen brothers, Fredrik Christian, Petter and Andreas, bought their first ships and began an International shipping company in 1848. Four generations later, the family now successfully operates four cruise ships. Balmoral will be joining the fleet in January 2008 from Norwegian Cruise Lines, where she currently operates as Norwegian Crown. Before joining Fred. Olsen, she will undergo a refit, including being expanded by 30m.
Having defined and refined the cruise experience and judging by the number of British passengers that come back time and again, the Fred. Olsen cruise line seems to have styled itself to perfection.
As a family-operated company, Fred. Olsen have created an extremely loyal following, based on consistently providing a warm and friendly atmosphere onboard all its vessels, with a firm philosophy built on a belief that small is beautiful. Passengers become friends - they are never just cabin numbers. Unlike some of the other larger ships, Fred. Olsen are proud of the intimate world they offer onboard, where modern-day conveniences sail in harmony with traditional values.
Braemar, Black Prince, Black Watch and Boudicca are smaller ships, which can be moored in the very heart of ports sometimes not accessible by bigger vessels. What's more you will be able to come and go as you please, maybe to pop back for lunch or drop off your shopping bags before you head back ashore to explore further.
With 100s of ports of call around the world Fred. Olsen features UK sailings from Southampton, Dover, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leith, Greenock to the Mediterranean, Canaries, Scandinavia and the Baltic during the summer months and fly/cruises from the UK to the Caribbean and South America in the winter.
