More Information

Providing a distinctive style including world-famous authentic Italian cuisine to the personal attention and friendliness of an Italian crew, MSC is undergoing a rapid expansion programme, with many new and modern 4* ships at exceptional value for money being introduced to her fleet each year.

Privately owned and independent, MSC is a true Italian cruise company. The atmosphere, style and hospitality is distinctly Italian with many of the officers and dining room staff Italian natives. English is widely spoken onboard and the guest mix is very European, satisfying client’s desires for a fusion of Italian style cruising, combined with the best of International features.

MSC Cruises is part of the second largest shipping group in the world. The company was started in 1987 with the acquisition of Starlauro Spa and then in 1995, it became officially known as Mediterranean Shipping Cruises. Up to 1997 the fleet consisted of 3 ships: MSC Rhapsody, MSC Monterey and MSC Symphony. In 1997 the company bought its fourth ship and renamed her MSC Melody. Then in the year 2000 an era of growth began with the announcement of the construction of two new builds – MSC Lirica and MSC Opera, with a capacity of 2,000 passengers, these were launched in April 2003 and June 2004 respectively by Sophia Loren.

With the move towards large new builds, MSC Symphony was sold. By 2007 MSC Cruises (as it was renamed), had a fleet of 9 classic ships with the arrival of MSC Orchestra in 2007. The two latest designed ships have been designed to meet current market trends, with 80% of the outside cabins being built with balconies. In addition, a further two new builds will be launched in 2008 and 2009 respectively, each with a capacity of 3,900 passengers.

As a consequence, MSC Cruises is currently the fastest growing cruise line, offering a modern and competitive fleet with a wide range of cruises and interesting itineraries, plus excellent on board service and hospitality that is uniquely Italian.
