Astonishing comes to three P&O ships
We may forget ITV stalwart and Catchphrase presenter Stephen Mulhern first sailed onto our screens was as a magician almost two decades ago. Now he’s working with P&O Cruises on a new magic show called Astonishing with his co-producer Jonathan Wilkes of Soccer Aid fame. The new magic show will feature as evening entertainment on P&O’s largest ships Azura, Britannia and Ventura from summer 2018 onwards.
As we can see in the video below of the announcement of P&O’s latest and largest ship Iona, this isn’t the first time Stephen has entertained P&O fans with his magic, and hopefully in future, Astonishing will come to Iona too.
Already hailed as a fantastic magic show that breaks new
moulds and truly lives up to its name, Astonishing incorporates virtual
reality, music, choreography and illusion all together in an all-new 45 minute
long take on the classic, yet wondrously modern magic shows British cruisers
have enjoyed for generations. There is even some audience participation but
those lucky enough to go to the practice performances and the premier have been
sworn to secrecy and so far, no one has broken the code.
Astonishing is a show two years in the making as Mulhern and
partner in the sublime Jonathan Wilkes aimed to produce a show worthy of rivaling
Britain’s Got Talent contestants with a spot at the Royal Variety in future.
The pair has set their sights high, incorporating legendary choreographer Paul
Domaine, who has worked with some of the biggest names in pop, and master
illusionist Guy Barnett to carry the show to audiences packing P&O’s fleet
of ships. Judging by the reviews of the recent star-filled premier onboard
Britannia in Southampton, it seems the performance truly lives up to its name
with Declan Donnelly enthusiastically lauding the end product after the opening
premier.
Will there be white rabbits? Will they cut the captain in
half? All we know is, it’s going to be truly Astonishing!
