Good news for all those who don’t want to manage their holiday by the clock - you no longer have to appear at a fixed time in the dining room. Instead, the choice of when and where you wish to enjoy the ships cuisine is up to you. There are no set meal times, dress codes or designated tables and what’s more there’s no need to dress up either.
On most cruise lines you can now enjoy the same cuisine as is served in the main dining room in a more relaxed environment and you also have the opportunity to dine with different people. It’s a great way of adding even more variety to your holiday, if you wish to dine earlier or later than usual, celebrate a special occasion or enjoy an intimate meal for two. Or it could be that you’re in the mood for a more casual experience than is provided by the main restaurants.
Both Norwegian Cruise Line and Ocean Village cruises have introduced a casual approach to dining across their ships, moving away from the more traditional two seating main dining experience. Both cruise lines have no set meal times, fixed seatings, dress codes or designated tables.
Norwegian cruise line’s Freestyle Dining offers a minimum of 6 and up to 10 different restaurant choices (depending on the ship) with no need to make a reservation. Restaurants open from 5:30 pm to midnight so that you can choose from an early dinner before the show or a late romantic dinner for the two of you.
Other cruise lines (namely Celebrity, Costa, Cunard, P&O, Princess, and Royal Caribbean) also offer alternative dining choices. You choose when, where and what to eat, from French fine cuisine, Sushi, Spanish Tapas, Steakhouse, Seafood, Oriental or Italian style dining. And of course there’s always the option of 24-hour room service. You’re free to dine when and with whom you choose.
