Cruising to Falkland Islands

Sitting some 300 miles off the east coast of South America, surrounded by the rugged waters of the South Atlantic, the Falkland Islands are among the most dramatic and unique travel destinations on Earth. Home to some amazing landscapes and incredible wildlife, they are particularly worth visiting during the summer, which runs from November to March.

During this time, tourists will have the chance to explore the islands' incredible biodiversity, with five different species of penguin to be found here. Among these are the Magellanic, gentoo, king, rockhopper and macaroni penguins, while a huge number of other migratory sea birds can also be seen nesting on the islands at this time of year.

For a glimpse of the local culture and history, be sure to check out the Falkland Islands Museum, which provides information about some of the shipwrecks to have occurred in the nearby waters, as well as natural history specimens and much else besides. The 1982 Falklands War Memorial, meanwhile, provides a poignant reminder of the islands' tragic recent history.
