Cruising to Geirangerfjord, Norway

World heritage-worthy beauty

There is a reason why Norway's Geiranger has attained a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The stunning landscapes that characterise this place are simply otherworldly.

Allow us to set the scene. Surrounded by steep mountains either side of the fjord, you stare around at the roughly cut outcrops that are carpeted with frost-covered trees. Snow paints the tops of the peaks and a frozen waterfall makes its way down the cliff face - stopped in time.

It's certainly a sight to behold, and one that has made Geiranger the most visited tourists destination in Norway over the past ten years. Scan the edge of the shoreline and you'll even see the once thriving farms that attempted to carve a living from the harsh and desolate surroundings.

Geiranger is certainly nature at its most beautiful, but not at its most forgiving, and you'll certainly want to wrap up warm.
