Cruising to Glacier Bay

The Glacier Bay National Park is without doubt one of the most stunning areas of natural beauty you are ever likely to see, with the region being famous for its towering, snow-covered peaks, shimmering glaciers, sparkling lakes and abundant wildlife. Alaska is known for being somewhat dramatic in appearance, and this particular location is where the drama seems to reach a crescendo.

There are lots of ways to explore the area, with kayaking around the Beardslee Islands being a great option for those who wish to get active while they're here, although motorised boat trips are also available if you'd prefer not to work up a sweat. Among the amazing experiences on offer is the chance to see the John Hopkins Glacier calving, with blocks of ice the size of buildings tumbling from the face of this enormous frozen giant with a thundering crash.

In terms of wildlife, the park is home to a number of stunning animals including the likes of grizzly bears, orca whales and humpback whales, with the summer being a time of frenetic activity as the local inhabitants take advantage of the chance to hunt and feast. Huge colonies of seabirds can also be seen on the cliffs that surround the waterfront, while other critters like sea otters and sealions are also abundant here.
