Hidden away in a secluded corner of the Bay of Kotor is a small coastal town with the same name. The importance of the sea in this area is hard to miss and tourists can sample the delicious local seafood in restaurants dotted throughout Stari Grad, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town, or learn more about the towns celebrated naval history in the Maritime Museum housed in an 18th-century palace. The bay is perhaps best seen from above, and while the climb up to St John's Fortress, which clings perilously to the edge of the cliff, requires visitors to be willing to break a sweat, unbeatable views over the town and across the water are reward enough. For something a little more relaxing, daily trips are available to take tourists out onto the water to explore the Blue Cave or Dobrec Beach, both of which can only be accessed by boat.
