It's also immensely popular with cruise-goers, with its waterfront recently undergoing an enormous makeover to cope with demand.
Seafood is the best cuisine available, with the local speciality being rock lobster, but there's much to do besides eating. Checking out the nearby feral horse population is an absolute must - there are between 150 to 200 of these amazing creatures and their adaptation to the desert climate has been extraordinary.
Beyond that, there is the ghost town of Kolmanskop and a town walking tour, but you could easily just sit at the waterfront and watch the ships go by, a cool beverage in hand. Perfect.
