Sailing along the rivers of Europe since 2008, the MS Countess is part of Riviera Travel’s modern and superior fleet, providing luxurious 4* river cruises along the Rhone River. With friendly vibes and a warm ambience from the moment guests step aboard, a dedicated crew who offer impeccable service throughout and some of the largest cabins on Europe’s rivers, the MS Countess – along with the rest of Riviera Travel’s fleet – has rightly built a strong reputation in outstanding river cruising.
Thanks to state-of-the-art navigational technology and safety systems, the MS Countess can provide the very best comfort and security, and its upscale facilities, intimate design and beautifully-appointed staterooms reflect the high-end construction.
Guests onboard can enjoy the use of four light and airy decks, as well as an intimate, uncrowded feel thanks to the maximum capacity of 138 passengers.
The majority of travellers onboard the MS Countess are British couples or friends, and the ship tends to attract a more mature demographic of avid travellers with a passion for culture, history and natural scenery. Solo travellers are also well catered for, with a number of single cabins available on all decks.
The contemporary, elegantly decorated dining room can be found on the Sapphire Deck. Guests can enjoy seasonal, fresh produce prepared onboard, taking inspiration from exquisite French cuisine. You’ll choose from a variety of sumptuous dishes from the breakfast and lunchtime buffets, before enjoying silver service four-course evening dinners, which consist of entrée, soup, main course and dessert. The open seating policy ensures a relaxed atmosphere at all times and complete flexibility over where you sit. Guests can enjoy an extensive wine list, which includes well-priced local and classic wines.
Early riser tea and coffee with freshly baked pastries are available in the mornings. Alternatively, you can eat a continental breakfast in your cabin whilst enjoying the beautiful scenery from your window. Hot drinks are available throughout the day, and a tempting afternoon tea is also offered. The bar at the rear of the ship morphs into the ‘Chef’s Restaurant’ every dinnertime, with exclusive menus and seating for 24 diners – reservations are a must!
The Panoramic Lounge serves premium beers, wines and spirits and offers superb panoramic views of the landscapes as you sail. The purpose-built Forward Observation Lounge also provides a spectacular view. There is also a Club Lounge on the Royal Deck which serves complimentary tea and coffee throughout the day.
The welcome dinner with its extended menu and the gala dinner towards the end of the river cruise, are always well anticipated.
Each and every voyage includes a host of exciting and captivating opportunities which will ensure guests can make the most of their journey through some of France’s most beautiful regions. Enjoy wine tasting in Beaune – the centre of the Burgundy wine region – or visit the home of Van Gogh or soak up the sights of the Roman architecture in Arles, before stopping in medieval, well-preserved Avignon. Independent exploration is also recommended when the itinerary allows.
Guests can enjoy a wealth of onboard facilities during their free time too, from reading in the library and playing chess in one of the lounges onboard, to taking a seat at the Internet corner and making use of the complimentary internet access to catch up with loved ones back home and browse the web.
The MS Countess features 67 hotel-standard staterooms and two suites throughout the vessel, from 172 sq. ft. up to 258 sq. ft. All are elegantly decorated and feature outside views. Indigo Deck cabins feature two small fixed windows, while staterooms located on the Royal and Sapphire Decks have French balconies instead.
Amenities include hotel-style double beds (with twin configuration available), soft or firm pillows, roomy wardrobe, underbed storage, individual climate control, safe, telephone and private bathroom with shower, L’Occitane bath products and hairdryer. Guests can also enjoy the large flatscreen TV with satellite channels and well-stocked mini-bar. There are tea and coffee making facilities in every room, and complimentary bottled water that is restocked daily. A nightly turndown service adds to the feeling of four star luxury.
There is a well-equipped fitness suite onboard, as well as a spa if you wish to indulge in a pamper session. Make use of the sauna and steam room or book in for a cut and blow dry in the hair salon.
The Sun Deck is perfect if you just wish to unwind and relax while enjoying the views. It’s fitted with plenty of comfortable chairs and sunloungers, as well as a putting green, giant chess and whirlpool. Full bar service is available and, when the weather allows, barbecues are a popular event.
The MS Countess currently sails the eight day ‘Burgundy, the River Rhone and Provence River Cruise’ which takes guests through some of France’s most magical regions, including the winemaking Burgundy, the countryside of Provence and the breathtaking Rhone Valley, with guided tours in Lyon, Arles, Vienna and Avignon.
