Holland America Line reveal their largest vessel to date. From February 2016 the newly announced MS Koningsdam will join Holland America Line’s prevailing fleet of premium mid-sized cruise ships. Keeping in line with their Dutch heritage, Koningsdam is a name that fuses together the Dutch word for “king” (Koning) and the long-established suffix of “dam” recognisable on all Holland America liners.
Premier season for the new ship includes exciting initial voyages to the Mediterranean with round trips from Italy, exploring Spanish, Greek and Turkish treasures.
Passengers sailing with the MS Koningsdam will be wowed by the legendary forward thinking interior design present throughout the ship. Taking inspiration from the “architecture of music”, leading hospitality designer Adam D Tihany has focussed on central lines and shapes that “evoke the feeling and beauty of a [musical] instrument” combined with grandiose space and heights, creating a majestic atmosphere in every room. This is especially present in the central atrium at the heart of the ship, an impressive stainless-steel sculpture reaching the height of three decks and inspired by the synthesis of a string quartet.
Activities and entertainment onboard the MS Koningsdam will see passengers enjoying the unique and interactive Culinary Arts Centre, Microsoft Windows powered Digital Workshops, fully equipped fitness centre and relaxing Greenhouse Spa and Salon. Exciting youth programmes are available for younger passengers. Evening entertainment features the incredible B.B King’s Blues Club hosted in the luxurious Queen’s Lounge.
Elegant accommodations are featured throughout the MS Koningsdam including Holland America Line’s first ever purpose built staterooms for families and single staterooms. Families can choose from tailored staterooms accommodating up to five people and benefiting from two bathrooms. Guests hoping to focus on wellness during their cruise can enjoy veranda spa accommodations located near the on-board Greenhouse Spa and Salon.
