MS Spitsbergen has been announced as Hurtigruten’s newest explorer cruise ship set to sail on her inaugural season of the stunning Norwegian Fjords in May 2016.The ship name reflects Hurtigruten’s Norwegian roots and is named after the largest island in the Svalbard Archipelago.
The new addition to Hurtigruten’s fleet of polar expedition ships has a gross tonnage of 7025, a length of 97.53 m and capacity for up to 320 guests. Stylish cabins and common areas will provide absolute comfort and relief for guests as they sail some of the most breath-taking scenic routes around the world.
The fresh Scandinavian design will envelope the colours of the sea throughout the ship. Designed with a conscience the eco-friendly ship will be expected to reduce emissions and fuel consumption. Meaning guests can enjoy the natural landscapes with ease and with minimal impact to the environment.
MS Spitsbergen will sail Hurtigruten’s traditional coastal route on the way south to Antarctica in Autumn of 2016, before alternating between this itinerary and polar expeditions. Inaugarul season will see MS Spitsbergen visit some iconic and beautiful destinations including Bergen, Alesund and Geirangerfjord in Norway and the Arctic Circle.
