MS Cyrano de Bergerac
Launched onto Europe’s waterways in 2013, the MS Cyrano de Bergerac joined Croisi Europe’s growing number of beautifully designed river cruise vessels, and has since provided an excellent standard of voyages to French travellers and, thanks to Saga Holidays, UK-based holidaymakers too.
Contemporary and bright, the fully air-conditioned vessel features impressionist-style paintings throughout which complement the décor and add another cheerful aspect to a ship that appeals on many levels – not least of which being its Bordeaux itineraries that take guests on a magical journey through some of France’s most captivating regions, including voyages along the Dordogne, Garonne and Gironde Rivers.
With a maximum of 174 passengers onboard, the atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, with plenty of opportunity to mingle with like-minded travellers. Croisi Europe vessels attract a mixed bag of guests, predominantly French but with a growing number of international travellers, and the multilingual host onboard will ensure that language differences don’t affect your stay. The Cruise Director and English-speaking local guides will also be able to provide every guest with insight and advice in order to ensure your cruise experience is maximised.
River cruises onboard the MS Cyrano de Bergerac attract mature couples and wine enthusiasts, because of the regions that it sails through.
A buffet breakfast, and a set three-course lunch and dinner, are served in the main dining room onboard, which can be found on the Middle Deck. Dinners are complemented by local wines, beers and soft drinks, which are free of charge. The cuisine onboard is inspired by the gastronomy of France, from beef filet to crème brulee. The open-seating policy can ensure relaxation and flexibility at every mealtime, and gives guests a perfect opportunity to dine with who they like.
There is also a 24-hour tea and coffee station onboard, and beverages are served with every meal. Afternoon tea is also available, and the Sun Deck features a small alternative restaurant, too.
There is a large lounge this ship, which features a dance floor and full-service bar. There is also an external seating area, perfect for mild evenings and sunny days. The Upper Deck also boasts a lounge bar with seating area. Enjoy a refreshing drink as you relax on the terrace, or take a seat and watch the evening entertainment whilst sipping complimentary drinks from the bar (excluding fine wines and champagne).
Guests can also look forward to a welcome cocktail reception and farewell gala dinner.
As well as the packed itinerary of shore excursions and guided tours, led by local guides who are experts on the regional culture, history and customs, guests can also sometimes benefit from a guest speaker onboard who will provide informative presentations along the way.
On the ship, guests have the option to peruse the shop, or use the Wi-Fi to stay connected with loved ones and browse the net. Onshore, guests can sign up for a number of optional half day and full day tours, which will help to make the most of their cruising experience, from wine tasting in some of the region’s famous chateaus and cellars, to guided tours of charming towns and cities. Independent exploration is recommended if you’d prefer not to join a tour.
There are 87 spacious and comfortable staterooms on the MS Cyrano de Bergerac – all of which are approximately 140 sq. ft. and stylishly and simply decorated. The 25 Main Deck staterooms feature portholes, while the 21 Middle Deck staterooms have large picture windows. There are French balconies in all of the 41 Upper Deck cabins.
Amenities across the categories include double or twin beds, en-suite bathroom with shower and towels, satellite TV, hairdryer, safe, climate control, radio and the use of a telephone for internal calls.
There is a disabled cabin with double bed on the Middle Deck.
The huge Sun Deck is equipped with reclining sunloungers and deckchairs, and offers a perfect place to relax and unwind while soaking up the enchanting passing scenery.
The MS Cyrano de Bergerac offers itineraries that encompass Bordeaux, including the eight day ‘Bordeaux and the Dordogne’ voyage which is popular with Saga Holiday guests. Sailing along the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers, this enthralling itinerary includes plenty of captivating excursions, from the wine-growing region of Médoc and travelling the Corniche Road to Bourg, to the medieval village of Saint-Emilion and a guided tour of Cadillac, Cognac and Arcachon Bay.
Other itineraries are also available, including several taking in the Gironde estuary and the river Garonne on round-trips from Bordeaux with Croisi Europe.
