Cruising to New York (Cape Liberty)

A thriving port found in Bayonne, New Jersey, Cape Liberty is actually closer to New York City than Newark or Jersey City, situated as it is on the opposite bank of the Hudson River to the Big Apple. For this reason, it has become a gateway to the empire state for millions of cruise passengers visiting from all around the world. But there's plenty more to Bayonne than simply serving as a cruise terminal and it's worth spending some time exploring the surroundings of this agreeably-named port.

Within the city itself are top shops and restaurants, while following the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway is a great way to soak up the atmosphere of this vibrant port. The impressive-looking Bayonne Bridge - the fifth-longest steel arch bridge in the world - provides an easy access connection between New Jersey and Staten Island in New York, where you'll find great attractions like the Historic Richmond Town.

As for Cape Liberty itself, it may well have an NJ in the zip code, but the views of famous New York City landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and, indeed, the whole Manhattan skyline, aren't bad at all.
