Norwegian Cruise Line have their own private island…and if that’s not enough, there’s a whole bunch more that makes this great value cruise line a fantastic choice for families, couples, groups or singles.

The American-style ships offer an experience that mixes traditional and modern features, with colourful décor and flexible/casual dress code. It was founded in 1966, but launched its current fleet of ships in 1999, starting with Norwegian Sky.

The revolutionary Freestyle Cruising concept allows you to sculpt your holiday to what fits you – that means the way you dine, where you sleep, or what you do to keep entertained is entirely up to you.

NCL cruises ships are famed for their wide range of dining venues – this ranges from delicately seasoned French bistros, to soy-infused sushi bars and meaty steakhouses. Day-to-day though, you will be treated to a continental feast, with endless buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then there are the poolside grills, cooking up succulent burgers that you can enjoy in the comfort of your lounger.

Along with all this, look out for the Chocoholic’s Buffet. It happens once during the cruise, and showcases a gourmet selection of chocolate sculptures and cakes that are to die for.

Entertainment onboard is plentiful, and diverse enough to suit all tastes, whether it’s something for the kids, or for a couple wanting a romantic evening. You can expect to see some incredible Broadway-style shows and laugh out loud comedy performances. Wanting something a bit different? Head over to a perfume seminar, or even an art auction.

Relaxation is a key part of any cruise, and NCL cruises do it very well. The Mandara Spas offer luxury treatments that you will find on very few cruise lines – this includes teeth whitening, acupuncture, and even botox. Some of the newer ships offer luxury amenities such as villas, martini and champagne bars, along with connected cabins and a bowling alley.

Coming with kids? The Guppies program is great for babies and infants, offering sensory learning classes. The teenagers can be left to their own devices in one of the exhilarating teen centres, where they get their own pool, a disco, and of course, a selection of games consoles and arcades.

Sail from the UK to the Mediterranean, Baltics or Scandinavia, with NCL Jewel, based in the Mediterranean throughout summer. Fly to the Caribbean to experience ships such as Norwegian Sun, which cruises to the likes of Hawaii, Alaska, USA, Bermuda, Mexico, Panama Canal and South America.

NCL cruises are curating four “next generation” ships as part of Project Breakaway, which will be the largest of the lines when complete.

Complimentary Dining

NCL ships are host to a large number of complimentary eateries, from main dining rooms such as The Manhattan Room, the Grand Pacific and the infamous Taste, to the more casual indoor and outdoor buffets such as the Garden Café and Raffles Court.

Most NCL ships offer at least one 24-hour food venue – to satisfy those 2am hunger pangs or 5am post-party cravings. Eateries include the Blue Lagoon and O’Sheehan’s which serve up classics such as burgers and chips or fast-wok dishes.

The main pool bar and grills are ambient, lively and tasty – with poolside convenience and ocean views – you’ll definitely want to spend a day or two camped up here.

Most ships also offer an ‘alternative’ bar and grill for something a little different – for example Spice H2O, the adult-only Latin and Asian-influenced complex features on various NCL ships and will be sure to awaken your taste buds. Look out for Norwegian Sun’s complimentary tapas bar, Las Ramblas – an NCL exclusive.

There is a coffee bar on every ship for your daily caffeine fix or a fresh pastry.

All ships host a complimentary 24-hour room service – so if all the above fails, or you would simply prefer to chill in your cabin, the NCL staff would be happy to cater to your needs.

Speciality Dining

Speciality dining aboard NCL cruise ships is generally reasonably priced (starts from $5 per head), incredibly varied and just down-right delicious.

For some gourmet French cuisine, try Le Bistro, or Moderno offers succulent skewers of barbecued meats carved at your table.

Asian cuisine is available aplenty with the likes of Sushi, Teppanyaki, the authentic Japanese Hibachi restaurant and Bamboo – conquering the tastes of Asia.
