A brand new ship to the line, the Scenic Amber makes its maiden voyage in 2016, joining its two sisters, the Scenic Opal and Scenic Jasper, on the Rhine, Danube and Main rivers. As the latest in the line’s fleet of ‘Space-Ships’, the Scenic Amber will continue with the unique and innovative features that have proven to be popular with the line’s guests, as well as ensuring extra space in both public areas and staterooms is ample.
With luxurious and contemporary décor, excellent quality service and incredible culinary delights served across a variety of dining venues, the Scenic Amber will treat guests to a sensational sail along Europe’s rivers. The all-inclusive Scenic label means there’ll be no hidden surprises either, with all meals, most drinks, excursions, transfers, taxes, gratuities and Wi-Fi all included in the price you pay when you book your trip.
Like its sisters, the Scenic Amber will hold 169 guests when it’s completely full, and will benefit from 53 crew members onboard. This means guests can enjoy a high crew to passenger ratio which will provide them with outstanding service complete with personal touches. All staff and crew members are fluent in English, as are the guided tour experts and commentaries.
As an Aussie line, it’s likely that the majority of guests will be Australian, but cruises onboard the new Scenic Amber will also appeal to travellers from the UK and USA.
Guests will find six dining venues onboard – the main Crystal dining room, Portobellos, Table La Rive, Riverview Terrace, River Café, and in your private suite, thanks to the complimentary butler service. The main Crystal dining room is open-seating and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner services. Whereas breakfast and lunch are predominantly buffet service with a few hot meals on request, dinner service is a sit-down waiter service experience, with an extensive menu that includes both regional and traditional choices.
Alternatively, guests can head to the romantic Italian, Portobellos restaurant, or experience the ultimate in indulgent fare served at the exclusive 10 seat Table La Rive, complete with paired wines for every course. Both the River Café and the al-fresco Riverview Terrace, serve light bites and snacks throughout the day – perfect if you’re feeling a little peckish and don’t want to wait!
All soft drinks, bottled water and teas and coffees are available throughout the voyage at no extra charge. Local beers and wines are free-flowing during both lunch and dinner service, and the bar serves a full menu of complimentary drinks, plus premium spirits and high-end wines which are available at an additional charge. The dress code throughout is casual, with smart casual during the evenings.
The Panorama Lounge and Bar is where most of the entertainment options take place, with emphasis on relaxed, low-key evenings. Scenic understand that their port-intensive excursions can leave guests in need of a wind-down, which is why their evening entertainment is simple, refined and enjoyable. There’s a resident pianist and singer, and the large multi-functional dancefloor will often be the host of talent shows, themed dance parties and cultural performances.
The Captain’s Welcome and Farewell dinners are highlights of every river cruise, and many guests look forward to the opportunity to dress elegantly and mingle with other travellers.
As a port-intensive vessel, most of Scenic Amber’s planned activities are excursion-related, with a wide choice of tours and experiences available via the Freechoice programme. Whether it’s a walking tour you like the look of, or you’d prefer to hop on the saddle of a bicycle, or even hop on a coach to a museum or nearby city or town, Scenic’s Freechoice programme will help you to do that. All guests also have complimentary use of Scenic Tailormade GPS devices, which not only work as audio description just in case you drift from the expert guide, but also have digital maps built in so you can explore each port independently. Bikes are also available onboard, and can be used in ports for independent exploration as well as for the guided excursions.
The Cruise Director will also plan activities on every voyage to coincide with the itinerary, such as expert lectures, culinary demonstrations and galley tours. The Panorama Lounge has a well-stocked library area and there is a giant chess board located on the Sun Deck. There is shipwide Wi-Fi that is complimentary to use, too.
Other than the 13 staterooms that are located on the Jewel Deck, every other suite onboard includes a private ‘Sun Lounge’ feature that provides fantastic views of the surrounding landscapes, even when the weather outside isn’t the best. These areas of the suites are essentially sunrooms, which can transform into open-air balconies at the touch of a button.
Suites and staterooms vary in size from 160 sq. ft. to 475 sq. ft. depending on which category you choose. Regardless of size, each room benefits from similar amenities, including queen size hotel-style beds, Egyptian cotton linens, complimentary minibar, flatscreen TV, Apple Mac infotainment system, in-room safe, hairdryer, bathrobes, slippers, climate control and spacious bathroom.
Every room on Amber will benefit from a personal butler service, offering an increasing number of facilities depending on which category of accommodation you book. Services include in-room dining, complimentary pressing, shoe shining, morning newspapers and organising of parties and events.
For relaxation, the Sun Deck is the place to be, offering stellar panoramic views as well as ample seating, including loungers and chairs and tables. The area is equipped with 3 retractable shade awnings which can help to provide an all-weather amenity. The Sun Deck is also where guests will find the walking track if they fancy a stroll, plus a vitality pool if they fancy a dip.
There is also a fitness centre, hair and beauty salon and massage therapist onboard.
From 2016, the Scenic Amber will join its sisters sailing the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers in Europe. Expect itineraries between eight and 15 days in duration, and including some memorable experiences both onshore and onboard. Sail through the spectacular Rhine Gorge and Black Forest, eyeing the dramatic scenery as you go, or step onto land for one of the many fantastic excursions that can take you on guided tours of iconic cities like Amsterdam, Strasbourg and Bruges.
