Seine Cruises

Seine

The Seine River flows through the French capital of Paris from its source 30km northwest of Dijon, where it meets the English Channel at the Normandy Beaches. A cruise on the Seine is typically for 7 nights and will take you from Paris to towns such as Vernon, Conflans and Honfleur before stopping at Rouen or in reverse.

Seine River

Over 485 miles (780km) long, it is the greatest channel of transport in northern France, linking Paris to the sea for maritime trade. It has five main tributaries, The Marne, Aube, Loing, Yonne and Oise, as well as canals linking it to the Loire, Rhine and Rhone rivers. The Seine can be identified as having five sections: Small Seine and High Seine (both too small for river cruise vessels to navigate), the Paris waterway, Low Seine and Maritime Seine.

Low Seine

The biggest part of the Seine River is the Low Seine, which spans from Paris to Rouen, and provides travellers with scenic views of the chateaux and towns situated along the river. The calm and serene Seine has been an inspiration for many painters and artists, including Claude Monet whose house in Giverny can be visited from the picturesque town of Vernon and its medieval half-timber buildings.

Maritime Seine

Past Rouen, the Seine opens up as it reaches its mouth into the English Channel. The most prominent stops here are the seafront town of Honfleur and the Normandy Beaches. The easy accessibility of this section of the Seine makes it a popular stop for cruise liners as well, meaning that the area will see more traffic and commerce than other river ports.

Weather & When to go

Summer days have warm temperatures of 15°C (59°F) to 25°C (77°F), with sunshine and clear skies.
