Making up one half of St Kitts and Nevis, the tiny island of St Kitts may not be the biggest, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in natural beauty. It should therefore come as little surprise to learn that most of the main attractions here were not built by man, but by Mother Nature herself.
Among these are the many excellent beaches dotted around the island, with the likes of Turtle Beach, Cockleshell Beach and South Friars Beach all offering everything you'd expect from the Caribbean, such as gorgeous white sand and crystal clear water. St Kitts is also a fantastic snorkelling and scuba diving destination, with a number of reefs located just off the coast, plus a few fascinating wrecks as well.
On dry land, meanwhile, the island is dominated by towering volcanic giants like Mount Liamuiga, and the best way to get a feel for the landscape is to hop aboard the St Kitts Scenic Railway, which circumnavigates the isle and provides a look at the plantations which were once worked by African slaves. For a more detailed look at the local history, head to the Brimstone Hill Fortress, which is one of the largest forts in Caribbean and provides excellent views out to sea.
